René Caovilla is an Italian luxury footwear designer celebrated for transforming handcrafted shoes into works of art. Born in Fiesso d’Artico near Venice, Caovilla studied design in Paris and London before taking over his family’s shoemaking business in the 1960s. Known for crystal embellishments, couture craftsmanship, and glamorous silhouettes, his designs have been worn by celebrities and showcased on red carpets worldwide. One of his most iconic creations, the Cleo sandal with its signature spiral ankle strap, was inspired by a Roman serpent bracelet and later exhibited at the MoMA in New York.
